On Oct. 3, 2015, Life Care Center of Michigan City, Indiana; Life Care Center of The Willows in Valparaiso, Indiana; and Hammond-Whiting Care Center in Hammond, Indiana, combined teams for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Washington Park in Michigan City.
More than 30 residents, associates and their family members attended despite the cold fall weather. Before the walk, a simple lunch with the teams created a fellowship opportunity for different Life Care associates from each site. Popcorn, an English bulldog, and Koda, a Husky, also joined the group of walkers.
This was a culmination of fundraising efforts by the three facilities. The Michigan City center hosted a competitive penny wars fundraiser and sold tie-dye shirts, and the other two facilities held very popular casual Fridays to raise money.
Altogether, the Hoosier Region group raised about $2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
“I feel empowered knowing that I’m doing something to help raise awareness and support the association,” said Sylvia McKinley assistant director of rehab at Hammond-Whiting Care Center.
